The Spotlight provides Community Water Supply (CWS) staff with an at-a-glance dashboard view of critical and upcoming work on sanitary surveys, violations, deficiencies, and compliance schedules. Transparency into SDWIS data gives users better visibility of easily missed work and data quality issues - making SDWIS more visible and more manageable.

  1. Click on Spotlight.

  2. The following five Spotlight cards will appear:

    1. Priority Surveys

    2. Open Deficiencies

    3. Open Violations

    4. Tier 1/2 Violations without Public Notice

    5. Open Compliance Schedules

  3. The search results for each of the Spotlights are listed below. To change the search results displayed, simply click on a different Spotlight card or the ellipsis menu ((blue star)) next to the currently chosen Spotlight name.

  4. Click on the Supply Name in the search results to open the Entity Overview for that water supply.

Filtering the Spotlight

The first time opening the Spotlight, you will see real-time results for all active supplies in SDWIS. You can customize Spotlight to display your preferred set of districts/subdistricts. Spotlight will remember the last set of filters you chose.

  1. Click on the Filter icon ((blue star)) on the right, above the Open Compliance Schedules card to open the Spotlight Filter dialog.

  2. Begin typing to search the list of available filters and click on your choice to select it. Choose as many as you wish.

  3. Click Set as My Default and the list will be filtered to match. The upper left will list your filters. Setting your default filter is not required, it is just convenience if you have specific districts/subdistricts that you commonly use.

  4. To create a custom filter, open the Spotlight Filter dialog again and click the 🇽 to remove an existing filter. You may then add additional filters, as necessary. Click Apply Filter.

  5. The search results can be downloaded to open in Microsoft Excel by clicking the Export icon ((blue star)) located above the search results on the right.

Hovering over the Public Water Supply ID will display a small copy icon right beside the number. Clicking on that icon will copy the last seven digits to the clipboard. This is a convenience shortcut. MiEHDWIS cannot open SDWIS, but if you have SDWIS open, you can paste directly into the Water System No. search field of the Water System Search page.
