Adjusting Browser Download and Retention Settings
This KBA helps internal users adjust browser settings for downloading documents from MiEHDIWS.
Edge
Accessing Download Settings
Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
Select Downloads.
This will take you to the Downloads Setting Page.
Download Setting Screen
Change Default Download Location
This option will allow you to decide where your downloads will be stored in your computer.
Under Location, click Change.
A File search window will appear.
Select a folder that you can locate and check regularly.
Then click the Select Folder button.
Ask me what do with each download
This option will set your browser to ask you what do with each downloaded file.
Under Ask me what to do with each download, toggle the slide on.
Now when an item is downloaded, it what will ask “What do you want to do with…?”
Open Office Files in browser
This option will automatically open any downloaded Microsoft Office Files in a new browser.
Under Ask me what to do with each download, toggle the slide on.
Now when any Office File is downloaded, it will automatically open in a new browser window.
Show the download menu when a download starts
This option opens a side panel window on the right-hand side of the screen. This list will show all your recently downloaded items.
Under Show the Download Menu when a download starts, toggle the slide on.
Chrome
Accessing Download Settings
Open the Chrome Browser.
Select the three-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
This will open a menu; navigate down to Settings.
This will open a new window on the left-hand side of the screen.
Select the Downloads side tab.
This will open a new Downloads Settings screen.

Set download location
This option will save all your downloaded items to the same predetermined folder. If you save most of your downloaded items to a downloads folder, this would be your preferred option.
Under Location, click Change.
A File search window will appear.
Select a folder that you can locate and check regularly.
Then click the Select Folder button.
Ask where to save each file before Downloading
This option will automatically open a new Save As window, allowing you to select a specific location for each downloaded file. If you download items that often need to be assigned to specific folders, this would be your preferred option.
Under Ask where to save each file before Downloading, toggle the slide on.
Show downloads when they’re done.
This setting will create a small pop-up window in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, with a link to your download. This is recommended if you want to quickly view your file, after you downloaded it. You will not need to navigate to the folder where you are saving your downloads.
Under Show downloads when they are done, toggle the slide on.
Firefox
Accessing Download Settings
Open the Firefox Browser.
Select the three-line menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
This will open a menu; navigate down to Settings.
This will open a new window.
Select General.
Scroll down to Files and Applications.

Set download location
This option will save all your downloaded items to the same predetermined folder. If you save most of your downloaded items to a downloads folder, this would be your preferred option.
Under Downloads, select the browse button.
A Choose Download Folder search window will appear.
Select a folder that you can locate and check regularly.
Then click the Select Folder button.
Always ask you where to save files
This option will automatically open a new Enter name of file to save to window, allowing you to select a specific location for each downloaded file. If you download items that often need to be assigned to specific folders, this would be your preferred option.
Under Downloads, select the checkbox next to Always ask you where to save files.
Setting Up Auto-Deletion of Downloaded Files
Edge doesn’t auto-delete downloads by default, but you can configure Windows to help with this:
Use Windows Storage Sense
Open the Windows Start menu search for Settings.
Open the Settings window.
On the System page, select the Storage option.
Select on Storage Sense. This will allow you to configure how you want storage sense to work.
Toggle the Storage Sense setting On.
Set your Run Storage Sense timeline.

Set the frequency on when to Delete files in my recycle bin if they have been there for over:
30 days (default)
1 Day
14 Days
60 Days
Set the frequency on when to Delete files in my Downloads folder if they haven’t been opened for more than:
Never (default)
1 Day
14 Days
30 Days
60 Days
